Faith Formation

Home / Parish Life / Faith Formation

Our Formation never ends.

We take very seriously our duty to educate ourselves and our children in the tenants of the faith and the doctrines of the church. To this end, classes and lectures and groups for all ages are available. Please explore the offerings and let us know if you would like to get involved! Some classes require registration, but many events are open to all. Please contact Mike Tober, Director of Religious Education if you are interested in Faith Formation or Sacrament Preparation for yourself or your children.

Sacramental Preparation:

  • Sacramental Preparation for First Communion – Preparation takes place on Wednesday’s from 4pm-5pm in the Parish Academy. First Holy Communion Preparation normally runs from mid-September to the Easter Season. Preparation includes weekly catechesis, a retreat day, celebration for the Sacrament of Confession, and a Catechism Bee. First Holy Communion is celebrated on the Second Sunday after Easter or commonly referred to as “Good Shepherd Sunday” because the Church proclaims the Gospel readings of the Good Shepherd.
  • Sacramental Preparation for Confirmation – Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation takes place on Wednesday’s from 4pm-5pm in the Parish Academy. Confirmation preparation normally runs from mid-September to early Spring (depending on when the Bishop’s Office schedules our parish). Preparation includes weekly formation sessions for all the candidates (academy and non-academy), Formation with the candidate and sponsor, retreat and celebration of the Sacrament of Confession.
  • Marriage Rite Class – The Marriage Rite class is offered quarterly for couples that are registered in our Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Preparation. The Marriage Rite class assists engaged couples by looking deeper at the theological foundations of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony and in particular the Church’s teachings regarding the consent of the couple.
  • Baptism Preparation Class – Baptism Preparation classes are offered quarterly for new parishioners and/or those having their first child. Baptismal preparation involves a thorough review of the Church’s rites of Baptism and the responsibilities of parents and god-parents in the religious upbringing of the child. New parents and families needing to take this preparation are asked to schedule well before the child is born so that, in accordance with Canon Law, their child can be baptized as soon as possible after birth.
