Sacristans attend to the care of the sacristies by setting up the altar and sanctuary for each Mass, cleaning up after Mass, and maintaining the contents of the sacristies (e.g. laundering and pressing linens and replacing candles and cleaning candlesticks).  Most regular sacristans serve about once a month on weekends, but there are some who help out weekly at weekday Masses. The time commitment is about fifteen to twenty minutes before and after the Mass at which you serve.
